Being the Expert
The most fun 18 minutes of my day today were spent talking on the phone.
Those of you who know me well are probably very confused right now. (I hate talking on the phone.) But today I had the opportunity to be interviewed and recorded over the phone for a podcast about the dynamics of print vs. web design. Don Stanley, a good friend and ex-colleague of mine is developing a series of podcasts for “Web Design for the Sciences 532”, a class that he currently teaches at the UW (one that Nick originally helped develop and that I later taught as well) and enlisted my help as an interviewee.
As a former student in the department think I had a good idea of what the students would be interested to hear. And better yet, as a young professional working with both print and web development on a daily basis, I think (hope!) I had the expertise to give them just that.
The discussion got me all wound up and reminded me why I love what I do, and just how far my passion extends. It also gave me a bit of an itch to head back to school (learning is so fun!) but that’s a whole different post…
Today I got to be the professional. And I liked it.
